2010 Utah High School Essay Contest
"HOW EDUCATION CONTRIBUTES TO DEMOCRATIC CITIZENSHIP"
Deadline: All submissions must be received by January 2, 2010.
Eligibility: All students in grades nine through twelve who reside in Utah. Eligible students must be attending a public, private, parochial school, home school, or participating in a high school correspondence program. Eligibility of prospective winners will be verified before the award of any prizes.
Prizes: Winning essays will be posted on the Far West Philosophy of Education Society and The Center for the Study of Ethics websites: www.fwpes.org and www.uvu.edu/ethicscenter. The three winning essays will receive essay prizes of $125, $75, and $50. Cash prizes will be paid by check in U.S. dollars. Winning authors and their teachers will be invited to an award ceremony at Utah Valley University on January 14, 2010.
Topic: Contestants must compose and submit an original essay in English of no longer than one thousand (1,000) words on the following topic: "How Education Contributes to Democratic Citizenship."
Submission: Submission via electronic mail is preferred, although essays may also be sent through U.S. mail. Click here to download the submission form.

All essays become the exclusive property of the Far West Philosophy of Education Society. Only one essay is allowed per contestant.
Registration: All submissions must be accompanied by a completed registration form. Privacy of contestant information will be protected and not be published, except to announce name and school of winners and will not be used for any purpose not strictly related to this essay contest.
Contestant finalists who submitted their registration via email will be asked to mail or fax printed and signed copies of their registration forms prior to the announcement of contest winners.
